Cult
[edit]Despite its involvement in famous cult cases and the word even appearing in the headline of one of the cited articles, this article does not use the word "cult" anywhere in its text. Why is that?71.32.167.13 (talk) 16:59, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia strives for maintaining a neutral point of view (see WP:NPOV). If Wikipedia states that the UPCI is a cult, then that would be taking on a point of view. Ltwin (talk) 23:20, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think 71.32.167.13 is saying that Wikipedia necessarily needs to "state[s] that the UPCI is a cult," but that it is curious that there is absolutely no mention of any of these controversies anywhere on the page.
- In fact, I was curious about the same thing. And in looking through the article's revision history, I noticed that every time there is something added related to controversy with the UPCI, it is summarily removed as "unfounded" or "improperly sourced."
- I also couldn't help but notice that a large amount of the major contributors to this article, including those who are frequently reverting "controversial" revisions, profess to be Pentecostal/Pentecostal-adjacent on their own Wikipedia user pages.
- No doubt, there have been some bad-faith and vandalistic revisions rightly reverted over the years (e.g. references to the UPCI being "heretical" or other such clearly biased language). And I don't think there is necessarily an explicit "conspiracy" to remove anything critical of the UPCI. But there does appear to be an effort, whether organized or not, to suppress critical viewpoints and legitimate reporting of controversies surrounding this organization in the Wikipedia revisions.
