Hauptplatz (Graz) moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Hauptplatz (Graz), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. - @UnitedStatesian: - Thanks, but it might have saved you some effort if you had read what I wrote on the talk page. If you had, you would have realised I had no interest in developing this article, and would be more than happy for you to delete it. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 08:31, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
East Midlands Gateway
[edit]Great to see the East Midlands Gateway article up and running. I made a start on a potential offering some time ago but ran out of steam! Just want to say if you see anything useful at User:Crep171166/sandbox/East Midlands Gateway you are most welcome to just copy it across or otherwise use anything there. I have some more media I will upload to Commons shortly if that is useful too. Thanks. Crep1711 (talk) 18:56, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Crep171166: - Thanks. I hadn't spotted that sandbox. There was some good stuff there. I've merged the infobox, some texts and some cites from there into the article. If you want to do more, please feel free. And certainly more media would be helpful. I found some on the Geograph project and added them to a commons group linked from the menu, but none of them really helps the story that much. The couple I took myself are hopeless. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:32, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of New Brunswick Railway Museum
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on New Brunswick Railway Museum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Haiiya (talk) 23:16, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Haiiya: - Thanks for the notification, even though I last edited this article 17 years ago and have no memory of looking at it since. At this distance in time, I have no view on its notability. There may be other more recent editors who do. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 08:22, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
The article New Brunswick Railway Museum has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
The article does not have any citations, and there is no indication of notability per WP:ORGSIG
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Haiiya (talk) 01:10, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Hauptplatz (Graz)
[edit]Hello, Chris j wood. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Hauptplatz".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. [edit]Hi Chris j wood! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Any idea what's with all the COI edits? Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:06, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Adakiko:: Not really, but it does look like somebody is making a determined, but rather amateurish, effort to write the hybrid locos out of history. I'd be surprised if Clayton's PR department were that cack-handed, so I'm guessing this is somebody from SMR who has got frightened by some sort of non-disclosure agreement the railway has signed with Claytons, and has over-reacted. Either way, it has nothing to do with Wikipedia, and there is plenty of sourcing for the existence of the locos. I've even found one on Clayton's own web site. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 09:16, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! BTW: adding the {{re|Adakiko}} after you have signed and published doesn't send any wp:Ping. You need to add the ping and a second signature. It doesn't ping if you erase your signature and resign either. I've tried a large number of combinations to no avail. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:25, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

The article London Rail has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Less than 10 sources, all prior to 2015. Main body includes seemingly irrelevant information (e.g. about "London Trams"), so article does not seem up-to-date, or relevant. See talk page for further insight from User:Jackiespeel.

Speedy deletion nomination of Princes Wharf, Aukland
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Princes Wharf, Aukland, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. ji11720 (talk) 16:03, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of West Hill Cemetery (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on West Hill Cemetery (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

- @Matrix: - Already turned into a redir, but I don't understand how this disambiguation page met the speedy deletion criteria quoted above. It doesn't end (disambiguation) so the first and third bullet points don't apply. And as Ramsden, Orpington clearly does exist, bullet point two doesn't apply either. Unless I'm missing something, this should never have been considered for speedy deletion (or at least not under WP:CSD#G1). That said, what this clearly shows is that nine years ago I intended to create an article for the other (and, from a historical perspective, more significant) Ramsden Estate and then didn't (probably got side-tracked and forgot). I think I will go and do what I should have done then, and create that article, then reinstate the dab. -- chris_j_wood (talk)

Category:Borough of Copeland
[edit]Hi Chris. Thanks for your work on articles in Category:Borough of Copeland. The edits you’ve made recently suggest you may be gradually clearing the category out, but that would need consensus. There may already be a consensus somewhere on WP, given the number of districts that have recently been abolished, in which case it’s worth linking to it in edit summaries so that folks don’t get alarmed! --Northernhenge (talk) 13:31, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Northernhenge: - That wasn't my original intent. I was working on the categories for Eskdale and Muncaster civil parishes (the first preexisting, the second created by me) and their subcategories, both on WP:EN and Commons. In doing that on WP I found a number of articles about places in those parishes that were categorised by the borough and not the civil parish, and replacing the borough categorisation with a parish categorisation seemed sensible. That is probably what you saw. It was only then that I discovered that the civil parish articles and (in the case of Eskdale) category were not themselves categorised by borough but only by county (ie. Cumbria).
- At the point I kind of stopped, because I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was a broken hierarchy that had maybe never been set up properly, or if it was the result of somebody else starting to do what you thought I was doing top down, and not having yet got to sub-parish places. Still not sure, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of hierarchy below the new unitaries, so I suspect the heirarchy has been broken all along. I was still pondering where to go from that when I saw your message. I'd be interested in what you think; I certainly don't have enough of a plan at the moment to seek consensus for. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 14:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, replacing the borough categorisation with a parish categorisation seems sensible, especially when navigating through political/administrative hierarchies. Geographic location hierarchies are a problem with large unitary authorities. Saying that somewhere is in Westmorland & Furness doesn’t define its location very well from a national perspective, but adding a new location (new coal mine or whatever) to the category for an abolished borough doesn’t seem to make sense. It needs something in between unitary authority and parish.
- Yes, the current hierarchies may very well be broken – there’s no shortage of broken hierarchies on wikipedia! I’ve occasionally thought of trying to fix some but the enormity of the task puts me off. --Northernhenge (talk) 15:39, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- We don't normally categorize by former area so apart from things like elections that are specific to the district it probably shouldn't contain any other pages. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:36, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Imaginary election results
[edit]Hi, re this and similar edits. In this particular case, the two constituencies have about 75% area in common, and the outgoing MP for Wantage is a candidate for election in Didcot and Wantage. TV and radio news reports have also been treating them as the same constituency with a new name. Accordingly, I think that it's fair to say that the seat is presently held by the Conservatives. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: - I've no problem with that logic where it is what the article(s) in question say. There are plenty of cases where existing constituencies have boundary and even name changes and we don't create a new article. Obviously that is, to a certain extent, a judgement call on the part of the article editor, and I'm not (at least in these edits) seeking to challenge that judgement. It just seems wrong to me to list a seat as being held by a particular party, then to follow the link and be told it has never been contested. After all this template is just a navigational device, and it is the encyclopaedia articles that are king.
- So I guess what I'm saying is that I think that your views on whether Wantage and Didcot and Wantage are the same constituency or not really need to be addressed to the the editor(s) who made them separate articles. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 09:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- ps. I've changed the row title from 'Vacant' to 'Not yet contested' to clarify what we are talking about. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 09:42, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Most constituencies have boundary changes of some kind. Several have minor boundary changes, and a few have got away with no changes at all. But there are some that have been renamed, despite there being no boundary change (not even minor) - for example, Brighton Kemptown becomes Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven; Hove becomes Hove and Portslade. To take something at the other end of the scale - Aylesbury has kept the same name but the area covered is vastly different - the constituency has lost about three-quarters of its former territory (mainly in the south) to the new Mid Buckinghamshire constituency, and gained a slightly smaller area (to the north) from the former Buckingham constituency. See the two MapIt UK links here. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:07, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: - I do understand all of that. But I don't think it is relevant to the changes I have been making, which are to make this navigation tool reflect the changes others have made to the articles that the navigation tool is providing navigation to. Personally, I'm not convinced why we need to show party affiliation in this tool, and I rather prefer the approach of Template:Constituencies in Wales, which simply lists the constituencies in alphabetic order. But I rather suspect that the middle of a general election is not the time to make a radical change like that. What do you think?. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 16:36, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Metro interchange articles
[edit]I was wondering how you feel about the bus service detail on the various Newcastle Metro interchange station articles, e.g Regent Centre Interchange (and specifically this edit). I think it goes way over the top on detail, breaking WP:NOTTRAVEL. Its only saving grace is that the table is collapsed so it doesn't burn my eyes when I read the article. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:46, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- @10mmsocket: Even though I've just started editing that article, I hadn't noticed that detail (largely because it is collapsed). I'm generally of the inclusionist wing of Wikipedia rather than the exclusionist, but my feeling is that bus route information, other than in the most general terms, is too volatile to be covered here. Rerouting a railway line is a major civil engineering task and likely to be encyclopaedic in its own right; rerouting a bus route is just something that happens all the time, and I think having this level of detail is just leaving us with a massive maintenance (if it is kept up to date) or image (if it isn't) problem. If you don't mind, let me ponder what to do when I get that far down the article with my rewrite (maybe a couple of days), and I'll post further. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 17:25, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the speedy reply. I await your further thoughts. Nice work so far b.t.w. 10mmsocket (talk) 17:28, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @10mmsocket: Nine or ten years ago we had a discussion, either at WT:RAIL or WT:UKRAIL that was opposed to railway station articles having detailed bus service information. I can't find it right now, but we can mention that the station has bus stops outside (but not those in nearby streets), the operators having frequent services from those stops, I think the route numbers (but not the frequencies). --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:44, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- I agree and thanks for the recollection/info. My only niggle is that this Metro station is a bus station as well - hence "Interchange". Even so I wouldn't expect a bus station article to list all the individual service numbers and their stand numbers. It is excessive. 10mmsocket (talk) 20:54, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Add a Fact survey and thank you
[edit]Thank you for testing out the Add A Fact browser extension! This extension was developed as an experiment by the Future Audiences team at the Wikimedia Foundation to learn about new ways of contributing to Wikipedia from outside of our website/apps.
We are planning to wrap up this experiment this December, sunsetting the extension and publishing our findings on-wiki. We’d like to invite you to take part in an exit survey to tell us more about your experience of trying out the extension, and to share any ideas you have about how to support new ways of contributing to Wikipedia. The survey is anonymous (see the survey privacy statement) and should take about 10–15 minutes to complete.
You can take the Goole Forms survey here.
Kind regards, MPinchuk (WMF)
